Women on T-shirts
Clothes Action

One day I wore a T-shirt
picturing faces of various
famous men a boy came to
me and asked, "Who is she?"
... and so he pointed to
Albert Einstein.

It made me consider why it is
so rare that you remember the
women who are pioneers in their
working field ... perhaps because
they rarely are portrayed in the
public as icons for their
professional abilities?

This got me starting up the project "Women on T-shirts. I have chosen
8 women who historically have
achieved remarkable results within
each their professions.

The project "Women on T-shirts" at the interactive theme exhibition
"Reality 10'55 Odense – new interactive relational art",
Kunsthallen Brandts, Odense/DK. February til April 2006.

During the 3 months the exhibition "Reality 10'55 Odense" is open, I will establish a workroom
at Kunsthallen Brandts. The audience can bring a set of their used clothing (pants, skirt, blouse,
jacket, etc.). I will make embroidery and prints of women's faces together with selected quotes
from the women pictured on the clothes.

At the end of the exhibition, the public got their redesigned clothing back. Those who had their
clotches redesigned also recieved a mini biography about the women depicted on their clothing.
This way the participants in the project would be able to tell the stories of the 8 women's lives
and work if someone should ask, when wearing the clothes out in the public space.
